Café Oswald’s at Cranstons Cumbrian Food Hall
Café Oswald’s, Cranstons first ever Café and Restaurant, is now open on the new upper floor of our Cumbrian Food Hall in Penrith.
The Restaurant, located above the Cumbrian Food Hall, and accessible by lift, offers a large, light and airy environment in which to relax and enjoy some of the fresh local produce for which Cranstons has become famous.
As Café Oswald’s is flooded with natural daylight, the Cafe will also house a series of changing exhibitions by local artists. Local photographer Fred Hill will be exhibiting his work from Monday 16th August for 6 weeks.
Under the guidance of our Head Chef, Nick King, Café Oswald’s serves a Cumbrian-inspired menu of classic dishes, with ingredients drawn from the produce on sale in the Cumbrian Food Hall wherever possible.

Why Café Oswald’s?
Café Oswald’s is named in honour of Kirkoswald, the Cumbrian village where the Cranstons story began with the opening of the first Cranstons Butchers Shop by Great Uncle Stan in 1914. The village itself has its origins long ago in Saxon and Viking times. The earliest recorded date is 635 AD when King Oswald of Northumbria reputedly built a church on the site of a pagan shrine, still the site of the village church in Kirkoswald today.
