We’ve had a fantastic year at this year’s Great Taste Awards and we’d like to extend our congratulations to our producers who have won 2 star and 1 star Great Taste awards!
A little bit about the winning products we stock…
Products from Mr Vikki’s, If I Knew You Were Coming, Lakeland Mues, Claire’s Handmade, Dalemain Marmalades and Country Puddings were all winners.
Mr Vikki’s of High Hesket added another two awards to their tally with Banana Habanero winning a 2 star and HHH2 receiving a 1 star. The company has now been awarded a colossal 110 accolades over the years for their chilli based jams, chutneys and sauces.
If I Knew You Were Coming entered their first Great Taste awards this year and came away with 2 stars for both their classic chocolate brownie and white chocolate and cranberry cookie kits.
Katie Hauser runs the business, which provides high quality baking kits, from her home in Warcop. She said: “We have never entered Great Taste before, but decided to enter this year to showcase our favourite products. We are delighted to have received two 2 star awards from Great Taste, and to have had feedback that that our ‘kits are well constructed complete with easy to follow baking guidelines’. We have worked hard to perfect our recipes and create user friendly baking kits, so to have confirmation of this is great!”
Dalemain Marmalade Collection’s Apple and Brandy Marmalade received a one star award bringing the fourth Great Taste Award to their range of marmalades.
Country Puddings of Dacre’s received a 1 star award for its creamy vanilla custard which is made with fresh double cream. It’s the third Great Taste award the product has received.
Claire’s Handmade, earned 1 Star awards for their red onion marmalade and their Cumberland Chutney with Sneck Lifter Ale – both best sellers at our Cumbrian Food Hall.
Lakeland Mues is one of the county’s youngest businesses having only been producing their award-winning muesli for two years. The Artman Classic was awarded with its second Great Taste accolade this year with their Tropical Medley winning its first, gaining 1 Star.
Tim Cottingham set up the muesli business with his best friend Luke Christian. He said: “As such a young business, we're really thrilled for our muesli to be considered as award winners next to other Cumbrian giants in the local food-producer scene. Huge thanks to Cranstons and our customers for believing in our products and supporting us every step of the way on our breakfast adventures!"
A little bit about Cranstons’ winning products:
We were awarded a coveted 2 star gold for their Dry Cured Smoked Streaky Bacon with judges praising it for its smoky aroma, firm texture and long-lasting flavour.
Made with Pork Belly from Orchard House Farm, Newbiggin, it is cured traditionally with a salt and sugar rub in house, which gives it a hint of sweetness before it is cold smoked by Port of Lancaster Smokehouse in traditional smoke boxes over oak and beech chippings creating a deep and natural smoky flavour.
Our other winners were their Cumberland Farmhouse Sausage and Handmade Caramelised Onion Sausage Roll; both scooping a 1 star award.
