Cranstons have triumphed at the annual Q Guild National Barbecue Championships picking up the top award. Cranstons managers Mark Mallinson and Peter Potts competed under the team name ‘Cranstons on the Coals’.
The delicious new product they created especially for the competition, Cranstons Marinated Feather Steak was first chosen as the BEST BEEF PRODUCT then went on to be judged SUPREME CHAMPION.
The Q Guild National Barbecue Championships were held at the Coniston Cold Hotel, near Skipton and were hotly contested with butchers shops from all over the country represented. The Q Guild of Butchers represents the elite of British butchery with a membership of 140 of Britain’s Best Butchers. Through organising competitions like the barbecue championships the Guild aims to promote the use of British produce and to safeguard traditional butchery skills.
The winning product which the judges praised for being ‘really tasty and innovative’ was the brainchild of Cranstons manager and master butcher Peter Potts. Peter explains ‘Marinated correctly, the feather steak, which taken from the shoulder chuck cut is a really tasty option for the Barbecue as it has more flavour. Our Cumbrian feather steak is scored and marinated for 3 days in soy sauce, honey, ginger and garlic ensuring the flavours infuse the steak ’
Expressing his delight Philip Cranston said ‘’ Our performance at this year’s National Barbecue Championship has been a real triumph. To bring home the top prize amidst fierce competition from some of the best butchers in Britain is a fantastic achievement. We are really proud of the quality and breadth of barbecue products we offer and being awarded the title National Barbecue Champion is great recognition of this’’
