Cranstons score hat trick of golds at Smithfield Awards

Cranstons Quality Butchers of Ullswater Road, Penrith have excelled in the 2017 Butchers Q Guild Smithfield Awards, coming away from the ceremony with a host of accolades. 

The Butchers Q Guild awards are an annual event open to premium butchers nationwide. The awards were handed out by Tom Parker-Bowles at the famous Ironmongers Hall in London. 

Cranstons scored a hat trick of gold awards for their Dry Cured Streaky Bacon, Pork Pie and Chicken Kievs. 

Our Dry Cured Streaky Bacon is cured traditionally, with pork loins from Orchard House Farm, Newbiggin, smothered in a mixture of brown sugar and salt. The dry rub draws the moisture out of the loin, giving it a delicious and unique combination of salty and sweet flavours. The fact that we don’t use any water means the bacon isn’t too salty and more importantly doesn’t shrink in the pan. 

The Pork Pie contains succulent minced pork, lightly seasoned and encased in crisp pastry. 

Our Chicken Kievs are part of the popular Simply Cook range of oven ready meals - succulent chicken breast stuffed with garlic butter, wrapped in streaky bacon and coated in a light breadcrumb.

Silver Awards were handed to our Rare Roast Beef, Mr Vikki's Chilli Dog and the Christmas special; Huntsman Pie. 

Our beef is sourced from local farms across North Cumbria, hung for 21 days in our purpose-built beef maturation chiller, before being slowly cooked. 

The Mr Vikki's Chilli Dog is a collaboration with local spice king Mr Vikki's of High Hesket. The Chilli Dog is a mix of our famous Cumberland Sausage recipe and Mr Vikki's award-winning Chilli Jam. The sausage is part of our Speciality Sausage range. 

The Huntsman Pie was a new addition to our pie family over Christmas 2016. A mix of ham hock, chicken and sausagemeat combine to create a succulent filling for the Apricot stuffing topped pie. 

All Cranstons’ latest Smithfield gold award-winning products are sold across its six-strong network of outlets in Cumbria - four local produce food halls in Penrith, Orton Grange, Carlisle and Brampton, and two traditional high street butchers shops in Penrith and Hexham.
