Cranstons Quality Butchers have won four product awards at the prestigious 2011 Q Guild Smithfield Awards, which seek to identify the best products made using traditional butchery methods.
The four Cranstons products that won awards were: Ham Hock Terrine and Pancetta (Gold); Steak Burger and Honey Roast Ham (Silver).
Managing Director Philip Cranston, Product Development Technologist Ashlea Pearson, and Factory Manager David Law attended the London awards ceremony in November. TV Chef Ainsley Harriott presented the awards.
The Smithfield Awards are amongst the most highly coveted in the meat industry and a true indication of excellence. This year, judging was held at the Catering Department of Glasgow City Metropolitan College by a panel of independent adjudicators from the catering and butchery industries. Products were put through a rigorous judging procedure, assessing them on taste, appearance, and a range of other attributes. The Ham Hock Terrine in particular scored highly, with a final score of 97 out of 100.
Following the event, Philip Cranston expressed his delight: ‘The Q Guild awards are highly coveted, so we are thrilled to have picked up no less than four this year. We pride ourselves on our traditional butchery skills, and it is our aim to produce only the finest, locally-sourced products.’
The four award-winning products are available at Cranstons traditional butchers shops in Penrith, Carlisle, Brampton and Hexham.
