Cranstons scooped the prestigious title ‘Best Cumbrian Retailer’ at the Cumbria Life Food and Drink Awards on Thursday night. The awards recognise the best of Cumbrian food and drink businesses with categories covering fine dining, pub dining, best teashop, best producer, best brewery and best food retailers.
Cumbria Life‘s annual awards now in their third year were presented at a glitzy gala dinner at Kendal College on Thursday night. Matthew Fort of the BBC’s Great British Menu programme presented the awards following a thorough short-listing process. Cumbria Life readers nominated their favourite Cumbrian Food and Drink businesses back in February. An expert panel of judges then travelled the county visiting those nominated to create a short-list and overall winner in each category.
Cranstons were nominated by a large number of readers. One reader from Penrith stated “Cranstons stock quality local produce in beautiful retail areas. They have outstanding customer service and excellent communication via newsletters and Twitter. It’s more like being a member of the family than a supermarket.’’ Another from Carlisle said: “The new food hall at Orton Grange is fab for me, so convenient and always the best quality. Plus I love the freebies you get now and again!”
The judges also praised the new Food Hall at Orton Grange saying “Orton Grange offers customers a pristine retail experience with knowledgeable staff and a very wide range of artisan products”
Caroline Dinham, Assistant manager at the Cumbrian Food Hall who picked up the award on behalf of Cranstons exclaimed ‘’It was wonderful to even be short listed for these prestigious awards so we were really excited when Cranstons were named as the winner in our category. We would like to say a big thank you to all those customers who took the time to nominate us.’’
The award will be on display in Cranstons Cumbrian Food Hall, Penrith over Easter.
