Cranstons Foodhall at Orton Grange, on the outskirts of Carlisle, is celebrating after beating stiff competition to be named a finalist in the 2016 Butcher’s Shop of the Year Awards. The annual awards are renowned for honouring the UK’s best butcher’s shops and recognise excellence in traditional craft butchery.
This year, Cranstons at Orton Grange will go up against Delifonseca Dockside of Liverpool and Huntley’s of Samlesbury near Preston, in the new Foodhall of the Year category.
Cranstons Foodhall, 4 miles west of Carlisle opened in November 2013 on the site of Orton Grange Farm’s existing café and gift shop. The food hall offers quality beef, pork and lamb sourced from trusted local farmers and prepared by Cranstons highly-trained butchers using traditional craft skills along with home cured bacon, freshly baked pies and Cranstons famous Cumberland Sausage. Cranstons own produce is complimented by a whole host of delicious local goods from scores of local suppliers, including ales, fruits and vegetables, artisan bread and ice cream.
Manager, Peter Potts said: “Orton Grange Food Hall is now into its third year of trading and is going from strength to strength. Our shopper numbers continue to grow and our customers tell us they like the strength of breadth of local produce we offer. It’s fantastic to be shortlisted for this major national award and a real pat on the back for our team for all the hard work they put in week in week out. I will be attending the award ceremony in London so fingers crossed we can bring back the trophy!”
The Butchers Shop of the Year judges will visit Orton Grange during October before the winner is announced at a prestigious awards ceremony at London’s iconic Banking Hall on 7th November.
