Cranstons Food Hall in Penrith has picked up a coveted Butcher's Shop of the Year Award. The annual industry awards are renowned as the premier event for the UK butchery sector and recognise excellence in craft butchery. Cranstons were announced as winners at an awards ceremony in London on Wednesday 16th November. It is the biggest award to date for the company’s Food Hall, which showcases Cumbrian food and drink at its best.
Cranstons won the ‘Butchers Plus’ category at the national awards, beating off stiff competition from Food Halls around the country. The’ Butchers Plus’ category was set up to recognise businesses which have expanded from purely retailing fresh meat and now offer a more comprehensive range of produce.
Ed Bedington, Chief Judge, said, ‘the depth of the offer, innovation and range, alongside first rate quality products, made the Food Hall stand out. This competition is all about highlighting the best in the business, and with a great team, a great offer and a stunning shop, Cranstons deserves to be recognised.’
Philip Cranston, Managing Director, expressed his delight: ‘we are absolutely delighted to have picked up this major industry award. We are really proud of the work we do at our Food Hall, bringing together the region’s best food and drink, so it’s fantastic to have our offer recognised as industry-leading.’
The Food Hall on Ullswater Road in Penrith opened in 2003 and was expanded in 2009. It has proved a real hit both with locals and visitors to the area who enjoy local produce.
