This Autumn, Cranstons are stocking Venison from the Red Deer of Lowther Park Farm, near Penrith.
The meat, which comes from Lowther Estate’s herd of Red Deer, is prized for its rich, deep taste. It has much to offer the health-conscious, being higher in protein and lower in fat and calories than beef, whilst also being an excellent source of iron and other vitamins and minerals. Venison can be cooked in much the same way as beef, and especially benefits from long, low temperature cooking in liquids.
Richard Price, Farm Manager, says, ‘The Lowther family have farmed here for 800 years. Our deer graze 130 acres of historic parkland, which provides a safe and natural habitat for them to calve and live happily.
‘We are proud of the quality of our stock and our farming methods. Looking after our animals and our land, we can provide our customers with tasty, consistent and safe meat--a real taste of the lake district.’
Roger Cranston, Operations Director, says: ‘Alongside our regular range of locally-sourced meats, we also like to give customers a chance to try something a bit different. Alongside Lowther Park Venison we will be stocking Dexter Beef, available from Thursday 11th October.’
Lowther Park Venison is available at Cranstons Food Hall, Carlisle and Hexham Stores, and available to order in our Penrith and Brampton stores. It will also be available to order nationwide from Cranstons online shop at www.cranstons.net.
Available cuts include Steaks, Haunch, Medallions, Mince, and Diced Venison--ask your Cranstons butcher for details.
