New Cranstons Food Hall to open at Orton Grange - Autumn 2013

Cranstons are expanding, with plans to open a brand new Food Hall at Orton Grange in Autumn 2013. The Food Hall will complement the existing leisure and retail development at Orton Grange Farm on the A595, Caldewlees.

Shoppers at the new Orton Grange Food Hall will be able to enjoy Cranstons renowned range of quality locally farmed meats along with fresh fruit and vegetables and a selection of food and drink lines supplied by scores of Cumbrian producers.

The proposed development is the latest expansion move for Cranstons and will add to our four traditional butcher’s shops in Penrith, Carlisle, Hexham and Brampton and flagship Cumbrian Food Hall just off junction 40 of the M6.

Managing Director Philip Cranston explains: ‘The Food Hall shopping format has proved a real hit in Penrith so we are really excited to announce our plans for a new Food Hall at Orton Grange. Our shop on Fisher Street, Carlisle will continue to offer fantastic produce to city centre shoppers whilst the new site with its links to Orton Grange Farm’s existing leisure and retail facilities, free car parking and fantastic road links will offer a convenient out of town shopping experience‘ .

Orton Grange’s transformation from a dairy farm to a retail and leisure hub began with the conversion of redundant farm buildings into a shop eight years ago and the site has continued to evolve.  In addition to running a working dairy farm, Richard Martin and his sister Claire now run a busy cafe and swimming pool along with hosting a hairdresser’s shop, beauty salon and quilting supplies business.

The new food hall jobs will take the total number of people employed here, both full-time and part-time, to around 40’ said Mr Martin. ‘Our diversification has meant that Orton Grange has become an important factor in the local economy, and teaming up with Cranstons, a company which is renowned for its quality, can only enhance that.

‘It would not have been possible without the enthusiastic support of the Rural Development Agency, which has provided various grants throughout our development. We really appreciate what they’ve been able to do for us.’
